More About the Procedure

Bariatric Liposuction reduces excess fat in specific, localized areas such as the arms, breast, back, thighs, knees, and calves. This can be done in conjunction with a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast lift (mastopexy), thigh lift (thighplasty), breast augmentation, and arm lift. The procedure removes localized, excess deposits of fat from specific areas of the face, neck, and body. It is ideal for individuals at or within 30% of their ideal weight, creating smoother contours and a better proportioned figure.

Working through small incisions, Dr. McNemar uses a small cannula (a hollow surgical tube) to loosen fat and remove it through an attached suction device. A solution of saline with added adrenaline and possibly local anesthetic may be infused prior to treatment. Incisions are small, requiring few if any stitches. In ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), sound waves liqufy fat prior to suctioning. In most cases, liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, with or without sedation.

Swelling subsides and bruising fades shortly after surgery, with initial results appearing in 2 to 4 weeks. Final results will not be seen for an average of 6 months.
