The emergence of fractional laser technology revolutionized skin resurfacing treatments. There are multiple laser skin treatments available, but fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers are generally considered the most effective for treating deeper wrinkles, scars caused by acne or traumatic injury, and moderate to severe sun damage.
Fractional lasers, such as the Lutronic eCO2 used by Dr. McNemar, create microwounds without injuring all of the skin. Because the treatment affects only a fraction of the skin, discomfort and downtime are minimal compared to more aggressive skin resurfacing lasers that strip away the skin’s outer layer. The benefits of fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing include:
- Reducing deeper lines and wrinkles without surgery
- Creating firmer, smoother skin
- Minimizing the appearance of scars
- Improving the texture of skin damaged by sun exposure
- Reducing pore size
The tiny channels created by the laser stimulate the body’s natural healing process, producing new collagen and elastin. These are the building blocks of smoother, more youthful-looking skin. The results emerge gradually, and patients typically take a few days off from work after the treatments as the skin heals. The most common side effects of fractional laser resurfacing are redness and swelling, along with some crusty and flaky skin.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, minimally invasive service patients choose to renew their skin by toning, and improving texture. At McNemar Cosmetic Surgery, we recommend a microdermabrasion treatment to help clients improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, melasma, acne scars, and other skin-related concerns.
What Does Microdermabrasion Treat?
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines
- Tighten skin while improving skin tone and texture
- Lightens the appearance of discoloration, spots, and acne scars
Patients sometimes combine microdermabrasion with procedures like BOTOX® Cosmetic, dermal fillers or surgical procedures like brow lift and facelift to achieve more comprehensive rejuvenation.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels use a chemical solution to remove damaged outer layers of the skin. Glycolid Acid, Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and phenol are common formulas used, each with its own uses and side effects. Dr. McNemar and his medical esthetician are available to help you learn more about starting your skincare journey.
