Nose Surgery

Cosmetic nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, can help give your nose a more aesthetic and pleasing look. For instance, Dr. McNemar can perform rhinoplasty to dramatically improve the appearance of patients who have an unsightly bump or crooked nose. People with wide noses can have the nose thinned out at the tip and slightly elevated. Women and men also come to Dr. McNemar in Tracy and San Ramon for rhinoplasty from Modesto and Pleasanton, CA, to correct breathing difficulties, whether congenital or caused by trauma.

To find out how Dr. McNemar can improve the shape and contour of your nose, Request a Consultation online at his San Ramon or Tracy locations and receive $500 off a series of 3 skin resurfacing treatments using Portrait® PSR³, an innovative treatment that stimulates the skin and can enhance the look of your nose procedure.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Nose surgery reshapes and recontours the nose allowing for improved facial harmony and creating balance among facial features. The surgery also may address deformities secondary to trauma or hereditary traits. During the procedure, incisions hidden at the nostril base and/or inside the nose allow access to reshape underlying cartilage and/or bone. This may include lowering bumps, narrowing of nasal bones, shaping of the nasal tip or nostril size, and improving the angle between the nose and the upper lip. The procedure also can correct breathing difficulties caused by structural irregularities.

A splint and packing is placed after the procedure and removed by the 5th day. Most people feel comfortable going out in public about 7 to 10 days after the procedure, when bruising and swelling subside. Results initially appear within 6 to 8 weeks following surgery, with continued refinement for 6 to 12 months. Cartilage is a flexible and growing tissue, therefore results following surgery are not fully predictable. Corrective nose surgery can be performed for those who may have difficulty breathing from a deviated septum.

Rhinoplasty is generally performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation; general anesthesia may be recommended. Some patients choose to complement their rhinoplasty by combining the procedure with other facial rejuvenation techniques, such as facial implants, chin implants or a face lift.
