Breast Augmentation Revision

Revisionary breast augmentation for Stockton, Modesto, and other California women near our San Ramon-based practice is often the only solution for improving the look or feel of existing breast implants. Whether you underwent your first surgery 15 years or 15 months ago, you may be eligible for a revision if you're dissatisfied with the size, shape, or material of your implants. "Upgrade" to the latest models, or simply choose a new look that better suits your lifestyle.

Are You Ready for Breast Augmentation Revision?

With so many exciting, innovative breast implant options released within the last few years, the decision to undergo a secondary breast augmentation surgery is almost solely yours. While secondary breast augmentation is indicated to treat complications or malformations, such as capsular contracture, it's also appropriate for patients who simply want to upgrade their implants to more advanced versions, such as today's silicone gel "gummy bear" implants. You may be a good candidate for secondary breast augmentation if you:

During your consultation, Dr. McNemar discusses your specific concerns with you as well as your candidacy for surgery. In some cases, private insurance may cover part of your revisionary breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation Revision Cost

The cost of your revisionary breast augmentation is determined in the same way the cost of your original breast augmentation was. Factors such as the implants you choose and the specific complexities of your surgery are considered. Expect to receive a written quote that precisely reflects the details of your own surgery during your consultation.

Your Custom Surgery

Although primary and secondary breast augmentation procedures are similar, they are not exactly alike. Secondary, also known as revisionary, breast augmentation is more technically challenging than primary surgery. The surgery itself, as well as the recuperation period, typically require more time. For this reason, it's important to choose an exceedingly qualified plastic surgeon, such as Dr. McNemar. Board-certified and extensively experienced in breast enhancement, Dr. McNemar understands the differences between primary and secondary augmentation, and takes the time to understand your motivations for surgery as well as your desired results.

Your secondary breast augmentation is performed while you are under general anesthesia. Dr. McNemar makes incisions either around the lower edge of your areolae, along your breast crease, or within your armpit, depending on the specifics you discussed during your consultation. He carefully removes the old implant as well as any scar tissue that may be present. In some cases, he reshapes the breast pocket to ensure it's appropriately sized for the new implant, minimizing the risk of movement or malposition after surgery. Depending on the concerns you wish to correct, Dr. McNemar may adjust the size or position of your areolae as well, to ensure a proportionate final result.

Once Dr. McNemar has evaluated your breasts for symmetry, he closes your incisions with sutures.

Many women see superior results when they combine a secondary breast augmentation with another procedure, such as a breast lift. This approach addresses many common aesthetic concerns in a single process.

Breast Augmentation Revision Recovery & Results

Expect a recuperation process that's similar to that of your primary breast augmentation, albeit a bit longer. It may take you a few more days to comfortably get back to work and other everyday activities, and 6 weeks or more before engaging in strenuous exercise, especially anything involving the upper body.

Once your breasts soften and drop to their ultimate positions, you can expect your results to last for many years. Thanks to the emerging technology and long-term resilience of today's breast implants, your results may last even longer.
