Brow Lift

In Tracy, California, Dr. Thomas McNemar performs forehead lift or “brow lift” surgery to correct a drooping browline (eyebrow area), reducing the horizontal lines and furrows (worry lines) that often make a person appear angry, sad, or tired. This procedure creates a refreshed, youthful appearance to the forehead area above the eyes. Dr. McNemar also uses some of the same techniques used in the endoscopic brow lift for his migraine surgery patients.

For men and women living in such California communities as Pleasanton, Livermore, and Dublin, brow lift surgery can take years off an aging appearance. Request a consultation online at Dr. McNemar’s Tracy location.

Brow Lift Methods

When performing a forehead lift procedure, muscles and tissue areas that droop or cause creases are removed or corrected to smooth the skin on the forehead to reduce frown lines and raise the eyebrows. There are two surgical methods, and during your initial consultation, Dr. McNemar will recommend the procedure that works best for you. The first procedure is the most conventional method where a surgical incision is hidden just above the hairline. Brow lifts are also performed using an endoscope which enables the procedure to be performed with a minimal number of incisions. While the traditional method can sometimes attain more lift, both methods create smoother, flatter skin on the forehead.

Your Brow Lift Procedure

This procedure improves the visible signs of aging by minimizing brow furrows, relaxing frown lines, and elevating sagging or fallen brows (ptosis). It creates a more youthful, alert appearance. During surgery, several small incisions hidden within the hairline allow access for an endoscope (surgical telescope) and surgical instruments to modify underlying muscle, tighten tissue, and raise sagging brows. If excess sagging skin must be removed, a coronal incision, one hidden within the hairline and across the top of the scalp, may be used.

Generally, a brow lift is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation, though general anesthesia is sometimes recommended. Many patients choose to combine brow lift with eyelid surgery or a facelift. Non-surgical procedures such as injectable wrinkle reduction, laser resurfacing, or chemical peel also can be added. Swelling subsides for most patients in 2 to 4 weeks, with final results appearing in 2 months. Incision lines continue to refine and fade for up to 1 year. There is a potential for change in the hairline with the coronal incision method.
